ABOUT THE EVENT

The client and their team were preparing to transition to a hybrid work model, and called on Neolé to help their team reconnect at a team retreat. The team retreat would focus on connection, working in a hybrid environment, assessing collaboration styles and team dynamics, and co-developing a Team Charter with an emphasis on fostering a healthy and productive team culture.

We worked with the client to design and deliver a day-long bilingual in-person Team Retreat focused on collaborative workstyles and problem-solving (featuring FourSight), and co-developing ideas and priorities for a Team Charter.

Following the Team Retreat, we took the co-developed values, principles, expected behaviours, team skills and knowledge, and built a draft Team Charter. This was shared with the team for input and commenting, and we worked to integrate the feedback to produce the team’s first ever Team Charter, focused on collaboration, inclusion and accountability. The Team Charter is a living document that will be reviewed regularly by the team. In six months, Neolé will reconvene the team to assess how hybrid work is going and to make adjustments to the Team Charter.

CHALLENGE

As has been the reality for many teams in the pandemic, this team felt disconnected after several years of working remotely and being apart. In a short time, Neolé needed to create a safe and inclusive environment to allow the team, including new team members who had never met in person, to connect, build trust and learn more about one another. We also needed to pivot at the last minute to a hybrid delivery of the Team Retreat to include a small number of participants who ended up joining remotely.

SOLUTION

We were able to design and deliver a creative and impactful Team Retreat for the client on short notice. We built-in time for meaningful ice-breaking activities, as well as trust and team-building exercises.

In the lead-up to the Team Retreat, team members were asked to engage in individual self-reflection and ideation. This allowed participants to begin forming ideas prior to the Team Retreat and to arrive ready & excited for active participation. A virtual “whiteboard” was used in the self-reflection exercise and in the Team Retreat to support ideation and share content. The use of a virtual whiteboard tool is an equitable and engaging way to gather perspectives and knowledge.

Neolé is experienced in hybrid workshop delivery, and could ensure participants who joined remotely last-minute were able to engage, contribute and feel included in the Team Retreat.

RESULTS

Our team at Neolé designed a successful event that was a beneficial and enjoyable experience for participants. We received positive feedback from staff participants and developed a close working relationship with the client. We applaud our client for taking the steps to equip their team for a transition to a hybrid workplace and to develop a Team Retreat. It was clear that this was a massive benefit to the team and Neolé is excited to work with other clients on similar projects as hybrid work becomes a reality for many organizations.
